Biblical Languages (Greek) – Level I

Course Overview
This is the first of a two-part sequence in Koine Greek. In this course, students will begin learning the grammar, vocabulary, and syntax of the Greek New Testament. The aim is to establish a foundation for reading biblical texts in their original language, preparing for more advanced translation, exegesis, and interpretation in the subsequent course.
The course is competency-based:

Students may complete all modules and assignments to prepare for the final exam, or

If students already have sufficient prior knowledge, they may skip directly to the final exam.
Competency is demonstrated through mastery of core vocabulary, paradigms, and grammatical structures on the final exam.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students will be able to:

Recognize and write the Greek alphabet, accents, and punctuation.

Acquire a working vocabulary of approximately 200–300 words.

Conjugate regular verbs in the present, future, and imperfect tenses.

Decline nouns, pronouns, and adjectives in major cases.

Translate simple sentences from Greek to English.

Demonstrate readiness for Level II, where advanced syntax and exegesis will be emphasized.
